Mild to Medium None Detected Medium Pleasant to Tolerable

The smoky, woody, bawdy, mildly musty, fairly creamy sweet Cyprian Latakia is the lead component, just not by much. The red, brown and bright Virginias offer some tangy ripe nighttime fruit, stewed fruit, plenty of world, some woods and citrus, and a pinch or two of spice in a strong back up role. The force merely misses the medium mark, while the sense of taste level barely reaches the medium level. The nic-striking is just past the center of mild to medium. No chance of bite or harshness, and I discover no rough edges. The flakes easily break autonomously to suit your preference. Burns cool, clean, and slightly boring with a well balanced, consistently sweet and lightly savory season from showtime to cease. It's not quite as complex equally my description reads, just in that location'south just enough nuances involved to continue information technology from beingness totally one dimensional. Leaves piffling dampness in the bowl, and requires a tad more than an average number of relights. Has a pleasant, lightly lingering after sense of taste. Can be an all mean solar day smoke for the veteran and novice. Three and a half stars.

Okay, I'thousand first. This only goes to prove what cowards and sheep pipe smokers are. No one has tried this blend. What would happen if I bought a tin?? What could exist inside? I'm scared!

I'll tell you lot what's inside. Flakes. Yup. Those perfect little gum-stick flakes 1.5mm thick that you-know-who makes. These are dark and delicious. Moisture in the tin can is fine, yous can dry out a fleck if you lot like. Rubs easily. Under the match, my starting time impression is wood, an interesting backbone for what is theoretically a va/lat blend. The latakia is flavorful just of a muted sort, nothing sharp in the nose at all. The virginia sugariness and pretty zesty. Past halfway through, this is chugging along offering no complicated flavors, but a prissy residue of sweet, zesty, and smoky leaves.

Not the nigh exciting set of flavors in the globe, and a trivial ane dimensional if you compare it to an oriental-fest medium English similar Rex Charles or something of that ilk. But tasty and piece of cake to get along with. Not much for nicotine... it'due south there but not unfriendly.

I think in a few years, it volition at-home down some and be sublime. Fresh, it'southward practiced, and at that place are only a few blends like information technology on the market - if y'all similar them, this is worth a try. Not equally dingy/heavy as commonwealth, and non as sweet(ened) as McClelland offerings in this vein (Anniversary, Frog Morton).

Savinelli - Giubileo d'Oro.

I got this on a trade with my friend Franck (Gentleman Zombie) in the States, and I always get thrilled up past the blends he's able to send, although it paradoxically highlights that without the use of a computer in that location'southward non much to exist had hither in the U.Yard.!

The tin can holds three rows of flakes that have quite a lot of xanthous mottles over them, and they're a tad moist.

The taste of it is a trivial different to what the title English oft implies, it's a bit smoother and milder, and nowhere near every bit caustic every bit some. My palate isn't ransacked by smokiness, instead there's a lot of cedar and hardly whatsoever smokiness. Even though the Latakia's the more prominent of the two leaves, the Virginia goes far from unnoticed: it gives a notable sweetness, and a dainty touch of grass. M.d.O. burns well once it'southward lit, albeit, the few bowls I've had so far did require a somewhat tenacious igniting technique (they probably could accept used a longer airing!).

Personally, I think the room-note's good, and the nicotine'south nearly medium.

Franck, cheers buddy, here'southward to the side by side trade!

Highly recommended.

The Latakia is mildly smoky with a fairly potent note of forest. Information technology has a prissy smoothness with only a very mild acrid notation. The Virginias lend sugariness and a little spice and, like near Lat/Va blends, very trivial flavour-wise. The overall flavor is of a mildly sweet and somewhat spicy Latakia. Pretty one-dimensional, merely that'due south ok with me. I've ever had an analogousness for Lat/Va smokes and this is a pretty skillful one.

Medium in body and gustation. No added flavorings. Burns very well.

Giubileo d'Oro is a very eye of the road English, neat, but not especially skillful either. I enjoyed the flavor, only it was utterly forgettable in a crowed field of English blends. The fact that it'southward a flake is probably more of a detriment than a bonus, as it makes prep that much more than of a pita than it'due south competitors. Flakes usually concentrate the flavors more loose cut, just it doesn't testify here. I'm giving it ii stars because there are so many more English language blends that exercise the job better.

Mostly black only with some light specks, these flakes are supremely pliable and wet but with some drying and a little dexterity, they can exist folded and stuffed, which is how I preferred it. Mostly latakia scent in the tin nose.

Sasquatch really nailed this one. I never read reviews before I write mine, but I cheated and read his earlier I posted this. Didn't brand any changes, which worked fine, considering his review most mirrors mine. So get read his and skip this one! LOTS of wood flavor initially, which made me wonder the cause, as there are no orientals or burley, which I usually associate with wood. Were I a "real" reviewer, I could discern the oak, cedar and hickory woods from the butternut and cherrywood! LOL. Drying this out thoroughly and removing that flavor-reducing wet diminishes the woody quality somewhat and the blend takes on more than of a smoky, zesty, savory character. The latakia leads by a small margin but, while information technology is flavorful, it isn't overly strong (except in the room note!). The Virginias are kind of not-descript on their ain and no particular flavors jump out. This is just a worthy mix of Virginia and latakia that won't bonk you lot over the caput with complexity or nicotine, and won't overwhelm you with subtleties. Once dried, how it starts is pretty much how it ends, with the exception of it getting a chip more stiff. Pushing this i doesn't seem to alter information technology much, either. If you appreciate top-to-bottom seamlessness and a hefty but not brutish flavor, and you don't want to gustatory modality basics, toast, breadstuff, figs and the usual assortment of reviewer adjectives, try this one out.

Savinelli- Giubileo d'Oro

I plant myself checking out the tobaccos at my "local pipe store", I say local because information technology's close to an hour away depending on traffic, merely since I frequent this place almost every Sunday for pipe club information technology's not as bad.

Equally I was searching through the choice I came across this blend, at get-go I had petty interest but I saw the appointment on the back of the tin stated Sep2015, it peaked my interest.

I decided against my meliorate judgement equally I already have to many tins open, to open this one too, and am I happy I did.

Upon opening I was met with a aroma of smoky Latakia, but with an even hint of fermented staff of life, this blend although almost 5 years old was still a little wet and therefore needed a little drying time, about 10 minutes. The tobacco cam in three rows of cleanly sliced strips, a lilliputian larger simply simply equally thick equally bubble glue.

Surprisingly this blend only has a few reviews although information technology'due south been around for a while, may be that pipe smokers truly do stick to what they like, or that the advertizing for these blends aren't as frequent equally other blenders.

The blend tastes fantastic, and I don't know if I can attribute it to the aging or if information technology's that's great fresh from the tin can, but the Virginia's and Latakia work together similar Batman and Robin, both together working with vs against each other.

The zesty and tangy Virginia'southward added to the Latakias contemplative nature allowing one to sit dorsum and embrace both equally adding an almost all spice essence. This blend smokes cool and needs minimal re-lights I fold and stuff the first flake and then rub out some other one-half a bit and spread it on top to let for equal charring.

This is a no nonsense, all twenty-four hour period english smoke. Upon lighting up the bowl yous get a somewhat sweet, woodsy and grassy sense of taste from the virginia and latakia. What this blend lacks in complexity, information technology makes up for in smoothness. The latakia has almost a creamy season that compliments the somewhat harsher flavors that Virginia's can provide. Overall I have to say the rest of tobaccos in this blend is spot on. I dont find myself demanding anything extra added. This alloy really nails the niche demand I have of a unproblematic light all solar day english fume. Everytime I finish the basin I'm perfectly ready to calorie-free up some other.

Forward Tasting notes: grass, cedar, wood Underlying tasting notes: smokiness, leather, citrus

Pairings: nothing, light/medium coffee, blackness tea

Mechanics: it'southward a lilliputian moisture out of the tin then information technology tin can be a tad difficult to go lit. Works well rubbed out or folded and stuffed and stays lit well. Smokes pretty cleanly and I can oft find it goes all the way to white ash.

Fourth dimension of 24-hour interval to smoke: all solar day

In summary the simplicity and lack of complexity should non exist looked at as flaws, but instead embraced every bit the perfect all twenty-four hours smoke for the English language lover.

I initially only ordered this savinelli offering due to the cool, swish looking tin and because I have a special attachment to savinelli in general due to inheriting my very 1st piping from my father. A fine 1970s model savinelli briar with an absolutely massive bowl. Its mostly for display now due to the amount of tobacco information technology requires merely to go it halfway full, but in my piping infancy I smoked a lot of leaf out of my quondam nelli. It will always be one of my nigh prized possessions. Anyhow, I'one thousand really glad I ordered this now because it is i of my peak 3 English blends to this mean solar day. The inside of the tin can mirrors the outside in class having several rows of multicolored, delicately placed flakes of near perfect smoking consistency. I love the odour of this one because along with the smoky latakia yous likewise conspicuously smell an extremely pleasant Virginia in there besides in perfect balance. Oftentimes this type of alloy is dominated more often than not by a stiff latakia, merely that'south where this blend really shines is in it'due south truly impeccable residuum which is non hands accomplished. I'm sure at ane time this blend was someone'southward labor of love and a lot of fourth dimension was spent getting it expressionless right. Savinelli's Guibileo d'Oro is an archetypal "simple English language" blend that delivers kickoff quality tobaccos and a comfortable smoke. In the tin can one finds two rows of dense, dark, perfectly formed flakes. Tin note is smoky, slightly musty, One-time School Latakia over premium, air cured, cold-pressed, scarlet and brown VAs that are bawdy, difficult wheat, semi-sweet. If you fold and stuff loosely, as I do, you'll have a long, leisurely session with plenty of fragrant smoke that tastes similar it smells and a long, smoky, sweet-and-sour aftertaste. No funny stuff, simply a cracking good fume, top to bottom. Strength is medium. Tastes are just over medium. Room note is perfectly concerning.

One great smoke. Four stars.

Mild None Detected Very Mild Pleasant to Tolerable

I have been smoking Savinelli's Giubileo d'Oro for a while now and I'k finally reaching the end of my tin which means I'll do a review.

This tobacco is an English Alloy produced by Mac Baren for Savinelli information technology only comes in a 50 gram tin to my knowledge.

Upon opening the tin you lot are met with the typical smokey smell from the Latakia, and hint of sweetness which I'm guessing comes from the Virginias. The tin has 3 rows of Mac Baren flakes which are very easy to fold and stuff or rub out at your pleasure and preference. I find them at a smokable dryness though you can dry them to your liking.

The flakes are like shooting fish in a barrel to light and I sense no bite even with long puffs while getting information technology lit. It burns clean and requires an boilerplate amount of relights.

Now to taste. I find this a particularly well composite tobacco and the flavors meld one with another. You can sense of taste the Latakia and the sweetness, sort of citrusy notation from the Virginias. If I could depict this blend in i word it would be mellow. At commencement, I acknowledge, this was a bit too mellow for my taste and I was tempted to jar it and forget it. I am glad I didn't. I now notice a nice complexity and I enjoy information technology. Notwithstanding if I'thousand honest it is even so forgettable when compared to my usual preferences like Artisans Blend and Old Dublin. I think for some this could be an all 24-hour interval sort of English. I have noticed more flavor in a deeper basin, I have a Kaywoodie Large Billiard which I've been using for my review.

Pros: very consistent burn down rate and season. Cons: very mellow to the indicate of obscuring components.

I have to admit this has grown on me, just I don't think I'll order any in the near future. Let me know what you lot guys think.

If y'all're looking for complexity or a bowl that will remind you of burning a big pile of clammy dorsum in your childhood, give this a miss. The VAs are nearly equal to the Latakia, even if they mostly provide just a little sweetness and mellow out the Latakia. The Latakia is well-balanced and never comes close to being over-powering. The flakes were just right for me (those that fully rub-out flakes might wish to let it dry a scrap). No seize with teeth, stayed lit. A boyfriend piper really wanted to endeavour this one and I dug through my stash and found a tin I had bought a year or 2 ago dated Sep 2015. Nice medium brown flakes, chewing gum size that easily folded into my Charatan and lit up nice and smooth. My fellow piper actually liked the room note (outdoors) and loaded his pipage every bit well. This is really a smoothen, well crafted blend with a mild Latakia taste. I actually enjoyed this one and so did my friend. Non much more than for me to add, for no particular reason I do not fume a lot of Latakia flakes. Either way a overnice smoke that I would probably similar more in the mornings with my coffee. Definitely not a Lat Flop. A few other members have had this and actually stocked upwards on it.
